1.1. Define, in your own words, the Bauhaus, De Stijl and Swiss Movements.
1.2. For each of these movements: find examples from their eras, as well as current designs that are influenced by these styles.

Bauhaus:
Bauhaus was a German school of crafts, design and architecture. They brought together all the different historical designs into one. They focused on functionalism in architecture. The school was open to everyone with a focus on collaboration between engineers, architects and artists. The ideas and teaching methods that were used at Bauhaus have been of great importance and it is used today in art colleges etc.

De Stijl:
The name comes from a Dutch artist group in the period 1917-1928. This group was formed by Theo Van Doesburg. The goal was to clarify a pure style for both architecture, painting and sculpture through a collaboration between the arts. This style was created by reducing elements to geometric objects and by using primary colors.

Swiss movement:
The special thing with Swiss design and what sets it apart from other design is the use of asymetrical layout. With text adjusted to left , ragged-right sans serif fonts as groteschue and later helvetica. They also use photographs instead of illustrations and most important the mathematically grid to determine the location of the design elements.

Question 2
2.1. Look at the history timeline at the beginning of this lesson. Gather information from 1900 – 2000, and design your own timeline using the Swiss Design Style as your theme. Each movement should be described in a creative way.
