Design a CD cover for a fictitious band called “The Typos”.
You may determine the title of the CD as well as any one of the following genres for the band: Indie Rock, Electronic or Hip-Hop.
2.
Use a visual and typography to design the CD Cover and remember to make the type work with the rest of the design.
The cover should have a front and back and be 120 mm x 120 mm in size.
3.
Expand your design onto a booklet of 8 pages – where the song lyrics are laid out. You may use fictitious type for the lyrics. What is important, is that the type you choose for your titles, body copy and accent copy should form part of the rest of the design (on the cover as well) and express the underlying character of the band.
In this learning activity I had so much fun. I wanted to practice and photograph with my camera. The pictures I took I used as the pages in the CD cover. I edited the photos in photoshop before I made them as a booklet and entered the band name and lyrics in indesign. I wanted to make one of the band members band in this design. Therefore, there is one man throughout the CD cover. On the first page you can only see the face of the man . You will at the following pages see the man part by part . The idea behind this was that when you fold out the booklet in the cover you get the person up in his entirety.
I chose the hip hop style and focused at the «vocalist» in te band.
My story: The band «The Typos» started with one man, the vocalist. He gathered friends to start a band. After playing togheter for several years, the band members wanted to make a album to honor the person who startet it all, their vocalist.
They called the album, -Nice guy-
I used the Font type: Copper Black . My design shows a close and emotional and tough album. I think the font symbolizes softness, straightness and also some edges. It was also important for me to choose a font that was legibility on the background. In the band name on the first side of the cover i added an extra letter with a red cross over. This is to illustrate and link to the hip hop genre, where they often illustrate with sray paint. I chose to design the pictures black and white to get a more mistery and rough feeling.
